Frequently asked questions.

Plain answers to the questions engineering and quality teams ask before they send a drawing. Don't see yours? Call the shop — we'd rather get you the right answer than have you guess.

Lead time & process

What is your typical lead time for laser marking? +

For jobs under 500 pieces, typical lead time is 3–5 business days from drawing approval. Quotes go out within one business day of upload. Rush jobs (same-day or next-day) run when capacity allows — call the shop to confirm before sending.

What is the minimum order quantity? +

One piece. We routinely run prototypes and replacement-part work down to a single unit. Setup fee scales inversely with quantity — unit pricing flattens out around 50 pieces.

Will you re-mark a part if the first mark is rejected? +

If a first-article mark doesn't pass your sign-off, we redo it on our dime — every time. That's the entire point of running a first article before committing the lot.

Do you design custom fixtures and tooling? +

Yes. We design and 3D-print or machine fixtures in-house, including precision nests for thin or fragile parts. Fixture cost is usually amortized into the per-part price after the first run.

Materials & files

What materials can you laser mark? +

Titanium (Gr.2, Gr.5), stainless steel (316L, 17-4 PH, 304, 303), anodized aluminum, cobalt-chrome, tool steel up to 62 HRC, copper, brass, white ABS, PEEK, polycarbonate, and PA-66. For unusual alloys or coatings, we run a free 6-piece test coupon before quoting production.

What file formats do you accept? +

STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG, STL, SLDPRT, PDF, AI, EPS, CDR, SVG, and high-resolution PNG or JPG. We work natively with SolidWorks, Solid Edge, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion 360, Adobe Illustrator, and CorelDRAW. Files over 25 MB go through our secure file transfer instead of the RFQ form.

Do I need a drawing to get a quote? +

No. A clear photo of the part with target mark location and a description of the mark content is enough for a budgetary number. We'll ask for a drawing before production.

Compliance & standards

Are you ISO 13485 certified? +

Not yet. We are actively working toward ISO 13485:2016 certification. In the meantime, full traceability documentation ships with every lot — drawing revision, machine ID, operator initials, mark-cycle parameters, first-article photo, and verification logs for any 1D/2D barcodes.

Can you generate UDI codes from our PI/DI data? +

Yes. Provide GTIN, lot, serial scheme, and expiration logic. We generate compliant GS1 DataMatrix codes, verify each to AIM DPM grade B or better with a Microscan reader, and ship a verification log with every lot.

Will the laser mark survive passivation and autoclave? +

Annealed marks on titanium and stainless survive nitric/citric passivation per ASTM A967, steam autoclave per ISO 11607, gamma irradiation, and ETO sterilization. Third-party test data is on file and can be shared under NDA.

What documentation do you ship with each lot? +

Drawing revision, machine ID, operator initials, mark-cycle parameters, first-article photo, and a verification log for any 1D/2D barcodes. PPAP, FAI, and DHF support available on request.

Pricing & commercial

How much does laser marking cost? +

Per-part pricing depends on mark complexity, part geometry, and quantity. Most production jobs land between $0.40 and $4.00 per part. Prototypes and one-offs start at $85 setup. Upload your drawing for a firm quote within one business day.

Do you sign NDAs? +

Yes — mutual or unilateral. Our standard NDA ships with the first quote, and we countersign yours. Drawings and customer data are stored on US-only infrastructure with full audit trail.

Can you drop-ship straight to our customer? +

Yes — domestic and international. We'll bag, label, and ship under your own paperwork if you provide it. MIL-STD-2073 packaging codes available for defense work.
